A new insight on the D-Day landings

On the occasion of the commemorations of the 70th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy, Operation D-Day has allowed the mapping of more than 200 shipwrecked vessels lying at a depth of around 20-30 metres under the waters of the baie de Seine. Silent witnesses to the violence of the fightings and to the stakes of the battle, these remnants are threatened with disappearance in the short term. Identifying, inventorying and enhancing them contributes to gain a better understanding of this major historical event.

The educational platform «D-Day, the Odyssey» provides innovative resources for teaching history and technology at secondary level.
